Band Shit [Jan. 25th, 2005|01:12 am]
[mood | contemplative]
[music |Snow Patrol - Run]

The weekend moved slowly, filled with Vodka, JD, Pot and whatever fun fix we could find, it dragged on and seemed like it wouldn't stop. I think I was just a bit worried about classes getting into full gear again. Kevin and I got very drunk on saturday night and played around with a bass line he had written. The song we are working on is probably going to be the first song we complete. It sounds pretty white stripesy, but I don't think we were going for that, or intend to sound like them. It's really more the product of some simple pop rock knowledge, catchy bass line = awesome. The songs' a bit predictable, something that anyone would have thought of, or simple enough that noone has dared think of it. Could go either way, but hope to add onto it over the next few days. I find it very hard to leave something be, and then come back weeks later and try and pick it up, and most of our riffs have died slow deaths because of this.

So far I've been handling most of the bass playing duties, not really sure why either. It's fun, something different than chords and scales, but a bit easy. Not sure how far down the road I'd like to play bass, I love guitar, and I can write well with one, but Bass has come very natural. Maybe well get a bassist, maybe I'll just do it and make kevin play it too, but one thing is for sure, we need a drummer. John and Richard are duking it out for drummer, and I feel kevin is more aligned to Richard, i think i partially am too, but I'd rather have a person who is around, with a set, and knows how to play. John is just learning, but given his latching personality, it could be a burden. Kevin and I have a drum machine, but we haven't learned to use it or even bother with it. I think it was a waste of money now, but hopefully Ill find some time to put it to use.

Few lyrical ideas floating through my head, so far Im the only one thats presented any lyrics. Kevin says he has some, but they aren't right or something. Don't doubt him, but I don't want us to fall into another "well wait till we have a drummer" phases again. That plagued the first semester. Just hoping we get to a fast start.

It's been a long long time [Nov. 10th, 2004|11:35 pm]
[music |Radiohead - Where I End And You Begin]

So Im back to doing this, cause I haven't anything else to do, even though our apartment has acquired Halo 2. Strangely it's just not the same without Ross. We fought, killed each other, accidentally threw gernades on our backs and played for hours straight ignoring the sunlight and our social lives. Good Times.

Besides that College has been a blast, I have another Lax game this saturday, against the University of Richkids. Then I have to go through some sort of hazing, or drinking games. Probably some humiliation mixed with alchohol. If my nuts come into danger though im going to be pissed, besides that its fair game and i already expect to drink Everclear mixed with alot of shit...I have a feeling I may wake up in detox...

The green day concert was a blast, and I gotta thank Melissa for inviting me way back in september. She and Michelle got to meet the band, which was cool, and then amazingly we found eachother on the pit floor, but i didnt spend much time with them. Crowd surfing was fun, did it about 4 times that night, except when the crowd put me in the circle pits and they didnt catch me...But crowd surfing to "basket case" is easily the coolest thing ive done at a concert. I remeber listening to that song with my friends when i was in like 4th grade and it was the first time i really thought music was awesome, some 10 years later im a total jackass about music now. Meh.

I miss the guys from phils and all those kids, I dunno why but ive been all nostalgic recently, and am looking forward to winter break so I can see everyone again. But i know 2 weeks into the break Ill want to be back in Richmond, just be nice If i could bring some of those guys/girls down with me sometime...

It's back [Sep. 9th, 2004|06:45 pm]
[music |Blur - You're So Great]

Hey, been awhile, but I guess im gonna write in this still. Even though I don't have a whole lot of time too. Anyway, Im going to see Green Day with Melissa and I guess Kristen too? Ill find out who all is going tommorow, but it should be really good concert. I remeber being like 11 and listening to Dookie with my then best friend Steven LoTurco. Yeah good times, hopefully theyll play alot of "dookie" and not alot of newer stuff, mainly cause the old stuff is so good, as opposed to the ok to decent new stuff. But none the less it will be a good show.

Unfourtunately i cant be officer dangle for halloween now, cause the concert is on Oct. 31st. Shits. There's always next year.

Work was ok, We fired the lazy pain in the asss black guy (not that it's bad to be black, its the best way to describe him.) He did nothing, and Im glad to see him go, even though this is my last week. The bad part was they fired him on a busy day in pouring rain, leaving only me and the vietnamese valet who speaks no english. Utter hell i tell you, hell.

Updato el Diario [Aug. 2nd, 2004|01:13 am]
[mood | bored]
[music |Iggy Pop - Lust for Life]

Woke up at like 8:30 today and went with father to the golf course for some putting, chipping and driving practice. Im not a huge fan of golf, and while my brother and dad took golf lessons I was at guitar this summer. But because I need to spend time with the old man before I leave, I went. Putting is boring, it's boring on tv, it's boring on the green, it's boring to write about. Our chipping/sandwedge session was rained out so after waiting about 20 minutes, we preceded to the driving range, my favorite. Hitting off the tee is easy, hitting off the group with an Iron is hard. So i spent my balls doing that. While 45 year old men with Titanuim rods and clubs tried desprately to break 150yards with a driver, I was using 30 year old clubs and doing about 160 with a 4 iron, no tee. Looking good on the driving range is easy, but doing whatever you did there on the course is hard. I won't know if i have a real talent for this scottish bred sport until we play a game of 18.

My brother left for the beach today with his girlfriend, and so that means the house is much much more quiet. I can't imagine what it will be like in 2 weeks when both of us are at college, most likely drunk and talking shit. My brother may be going to a Patriot League school, but I have an apartment my first year (i love bragging about it) and were in the inner-city. So I would believe a VCU grad would have more "street-cred" than a suburban Ivy League Reject Bucknell student.

Im stealing albums now, since I have my soulseek privlages again, and last night I got the Trainspotting soundtrack. The other night I downloaded the Beck albums I don't have. Tonight im getting all the Blur i can get. Spent an hour or two with michelle and melissa and watched the simple life, where we had a friendly disagreement over whether or not Paris Hilton knows to act stupid for ratings. I say no, Melissa says yes....so you have chosen death Melissa.

By the way, you have about 12 days left until im gone forever, so let's make em last shall we. Id rather they go quickly, as I want to goto the beach and move in right away. Just call me, Ill probably be playing Doom 3 all night and sleeping all day, with the occasional stoppage to work and go visit some friends.

The Village [Jul. 31st, 2004|12:59 am]
[music |Joe Strummer - Long Shadow]

Don't see the village it's the worst movie of the year. It was cool for an hour and then it completely sucked and ruined anything good about it. Spend your 8.50 on something better, like a bargain bin cd, or a porno, or Harold and Kumar goto White Castle. Just don't see the fucking village. Shamalayan sucks now. Signs and now this? Argh!

Spent most the day with my roomate Richard, we waited around for Kevin (other roommate) and John (CNU student) to get out of the 311/Roots concert. So we drove around and went to tower. There I got a trainspotting poster, and Joe Strummer's last album before he died. Richard got some generic hardcore album and some guy gave him a burned cd of some band i dont care about.

Well anyway while i was bored shitless out of The Village, I imagined a scenario that I'd like in like 10 years. Married with some Art School grad who doesn't have a real job and paints and takes care of kids whilst I run around the country doing advertsing marketing, going to high profile buisness meetings and making lots of money for coming up with a slogan I made whilst high/drunk with my buddies. It's reasonable and I'd be perfectly happy with it.

Bored and still up [Jul. 29th, 2004|04:51 am]
So in a pure act of boredom and insomnia, im going to list my top ten favorite albums and explain why I chose them.

1. Radiohead - OK Computer - I will ultimately spend the rest of my life talking about, and ripping off this album. No song sounds like any other on the record, and with each listen you hear something you didn't hear before. The Concept is brilliant because it starts with a song about being in a car crash, and ends saying "idiot slow down." The sound of rock falling apart.

2. The Clash - London Calling - This album fuses punk, pop, ska, reggae and political activism into one gigantic orgy. The clash are easily the least talented band to ever reach world wide popularity, but Strummer's lyrics more than make up for the simplistic rhythms.

3. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation - Just about every 90's band owes Sonic Youth for exploring alternate tunings, and making punk rock more than just bitching about society over fast guitars with loads of distortion. They cranked up the distortion, retuned, and wrote arty lyrics that are reflected in 90's music. You rarely see bands cover SY songs because they can never do them justice, let alone want to retune all 6 strings for one song.

4. The Pixies - Surfer Rosa - If 90's rock owes Sonic Youth for exploring new sounds, it more than anything owes The Pixies for setting the standard for what a "grunge" group should be.

5. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here - A personal favorite of mine because of the albums subject matter. Also has influenced the sound I use for my guitar playing.

6. Beck - Odelay! - Rap, Funk, Country, Blues, Alternative Rock, Folk, the most diverse album of the 90's. The most original artist of the 90's as well.

7. Radiohead - The Bends - A flawless record that put Radiohead in a league of it's own above the other Brit-pop acts of the mid nineties. Innovative guitar playing, with some of Yorke's best lyrics and flirted with electronic sounds.

8. Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes - Acoustic Rock with the angsty goodness of Punk? An album that can be used as the soundtrack to most teenagers lives.

9. Nirvana - In Utero - Besides Bleach, this album caught the rougher side of Nirvana, the side covered up to sell records on Nevermind. The Subject matter of the album was always touchy, and showcased Kurt's best writing.

10. Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News - The most recent of all my selections, as of now it may not be extremely justified. After hearing so much buzz about the group, I got the album on a whim having never heard the group before. Issac Brock's songs deliver a message of hope, when it seems all we can do is hope against hope. Whether its the Jerky Guitars, or the reminiscence of the Pixies, Modest Mouse has done its best album to date and one of my favorites.

yah im really fucking bored and can't sleep.

Back Again [Jul. 29th, 2004|01:05 am]
[music |Beck - Static]

Yeah it's back, not by popular demand, but mainly just pure boredom and a terrible wireless connection that won't allow me to play any games online. With this problem, it has stymied my play of Battlefield Vietnam, a late night addiction that you would only understand if you had nothing to do at 2:30 in the morning and amphetamines you take for ADD keep you up all night. If you have been following me, you'd know that for the past 3 months I have not been on my medication thus gaining 35 pounds. Since starting my new medication 3 weeks ago, I have lost 25 of those pounds. Unfourtunately I only eat one small meal a day, and am stuck in terrible sleeping hours (3am - 1pm), but am more focused than ever.

In about 2 weeks I'll be moving to Richmond VA. 728 West Marshal St. Appt. 39. My roomates are, Suspected Homosexual Richard Meader, All Around Slice of Heaven Seth Willis and Huggably Dirty Kevin Thomas. The best part about having an apartment is that we don't have to answer to fucking R.A.'s. RA's are the lowest of the low, they couldnt make friends with thier class, so they have to try and be freshmen's best friends, and fail. These are the people who will become the crazy person at work noone likes. Think Milton in Office Space. Another plus to the apartment is that there are no set "visitation hours" come when you want, whenever you want. It'll win ya alot of friends too, cause everyone wants a place to drink, commit acts against the will of god, and best of all a floor to pass out on. Plus clean bathrooms, a washer and dryer, television (no juniors, you don't really get this in a dorm, unless you want to goto the dorm commons and fight with 20 other people about what channel to watch.)

Fuck the dorms, I get to live with my best friends and have a place were all my friends can come to hang out without worrying about a nosy RA reporting us for having alchohal. Can't fucking wait to get down there, meet a buncha new people, start that band thing I've wanted to do and just have a great 4 years.

Speaking of Band stuff, My Guitar lessons ended today. One Year with Mr. Matthew Mills, power metal extrodinaire and I've learned quite alot. I learned how to be a pretentious jerk off and tell my friends why thier songs are out of key and what they ought to be doing, and develop some pretty damn good chops. Sad to leave his 10ft wide studio, but my time there is spent and now its time to go onto bigger and better things.

Birf'day + Franz Ferdinand [May. 30th, 2004|12:18 am]
[music |The Streets - Dry Your Eyes]

Hey, turned 18 on thursday, cool shit. Got the Chappelle Show DVD and Tix to go see Franz Ferdinand at the 930 Club on June 20th. 17 wasn't a bad year at all, infact possibly one of my best. 18 has started off a bit rocky but there's clear skies ahead so all will be ok.

Was supposed to hang out with Kristen friday...hung out with Kevin instead. Saturday hung out with Melissa and Kiel and Michelle for a good while and had to go shopping for some new clothes. And I found an Interpol t-shirt at hot topic (rare! something good!) Also we went to the goodwill shop and i found a London Calling Vinyl for 1 buck so I got it and can't wait to use it on a vinyl player, cause mine is broken.

Ill put more up sometime.

Day in da life of a geezer [May. 19th, 2004|09:00 pm]
[mood | creative]
[music |Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here]

Bought the new Streets album today. After Kevin played me thier Pot vs. Beer song i was hooked, thier english rap/electronica. It may sound scary and it probably is something none of you who read this will like or catch on to at all, but its fun stuff. Check em out The Streets - The Irony of It All.

Was supposed to hang out with Melissa and company today, that fell through, and any attempt to hang out with Kristen fell through (no biggie we get to spend all saturday night together for prom and im sure that will be more than enough time for her to want to push me outta the car on 66. :) ) So i basically just slept in my room before guitar, which once again Im learning the joys of classical guitar.

Just about a week till my birf'day. 15 days of school left for seniors, and 3 months left till I move to Richmond.

Im Not Here, This Is Not Happening [May. 16th, 2004|12:53 am]
[music |Modest Mouse - Black Cadillacs]

Not a terrible weekend so far, but not simply amazing either. Once again I only got to see Kristen for maybe 10-15 minutes, so that was a major downer on the day. But I did spend some quality time with Melissa and Michelle. Me, Melissa, Michelle, Phil, Kiel, Nick Mark, Barker, Peter, Sulava, Nitay from Econ. , Sulava's nepali friends, went to the Oasis to hang out for a bit. Then I had to scramble to get about half those kids home and try to meet my brand new curfew of 11pm. I ended up at home around 11:45.

I bought the Morrissey Irish Blood, English Heart EP today, and also got Airplane for 5 bucks at Best Buy. And then I had to buy a brand new Tape Deck to CD/MP3 player for the car, which I wont get to drive very much this week.

I also had the time to make a quick draft on shit I want for my birthday so my parents will run out and get it. Of course I just realized that unlike my brother, all my birthdays during my college days will be spent at home, unless i decide to stay in richmond over the summer.

*Chappele Show DVD
*Kids in the Hall DVD
*Morrissey - You Are the Quarry
*Radiohead posters
*Two Tickets to see Franz Ferdinand at the 930 Club
*Some Money for some trendy scenester clothes
*Maybe get that college computer a little earlier??

Thats it and probably only gonna get 2 or 3 of those, but its good stuff if i may say so.

No Car Blues [May. 12th, 2004|09:34 pm]
[music |Franz Ferdinand - 40']

In less than 24 hours after getting my car back after a week of repairs, the windshield takes a rock to it's face and the passanger side near the wiper is cracked. Goodbye car till at least my birthday. :( Hello walking home from school, and occasionally to school. At least these walks to and from school are giving me time to listen to the Ipod on the way to school, and do some quick thinking and last minute studying. Studying, hah, funny word cause I don't do it anymore, only about 3 weeks and I don't have to study again until August, and I won't mind studying then cause its shit I care about.

With no car, it looks like it could be another weekend at home. At least there's
1) Troy on Friday
2) The Preakness Saturday
3) 1 Week Till Prom

Hopefully I'll get to spend sometime with Kristen (when she's not coughing up her lungs) and Melissa, Kiel, Phil and all those other important people who I'm commonly with.

Also It'll be two weeks until my birthday on thursday, and I haven't a clue what I want, other than my car back. Maybe I'll make a push for a Rickenbacker Guitar or a 72' Telecaster Custom. Tattoo would be nice, or maybe tix to Lollapalooza so I don't gotta pay for em. Speaking of Tours, The Cure got Muse and Interpol on thiers, its called Curiosa and so far hasn't booked a Washington DC Date. So Im quite pissed off. Back to Birthday shit, meh, I'll think of something.

Clutch! [May. 9th, 2004|10:14 pm]
[music |The Pixies - Hey]

On a Whim, I went with Harrison to the Clutch show at 930 Club. For 15 bucks why the fuck not, it's something to do on a Saturday night, and even though I had never even heard of Clutch until then, it could only be fun. So I invited Melissa, Phil, Michelle and Kiel came to, which was unexpectedly cool. It was a great show, not the best show I've ever seen (that is reserved for the Mars Volta until I see Sonic Youth blow the fucking lid off of Lollapalooza.) But it was definately entertaining.

I also popped my crowd surfing cherry there. I mean lets face it, This is probably the only concert where there will be strong enough guys to hold me up. And that they did, extremely well, I didnt slip down, or get dropped, and had alot of momentum, it was a fun smooth ride, and I was looking up at the balcony and back of the club the entire way. Nothing cooler than seeing a couple hundred faces looking at you for a few seconds, all the while your throwing your fists in the air, cheering until it's over and you have to fight your way back to the pit. I saw the guy who boosted me up and said thanks and we exchanged some friendly punches on the chests. I wasn't the first go up though, I wasn't sure if the crowd was strong enough to send me up, so Kiel went first and had an awesome ride. But after seeing him have an assload of fun, I didn't care, I just wanted to do it. After I did it we got Phil to do it cause it was just that much fun. Melissa woulda done it, but the crowd was drunk college kids so she woulda gotten major gropeage. Maybe at Lollapalooza where everyone is too friendly to try that shit.

All in All it was a great Saturday Night, got home around 2:30am, and dropped dead from exhaustion and woke up for mother's day festivities.
